How dangerous to health is the powerful X Ray scanner at Manchester airport?

I have noticed that people who give you an X Ray always hide behind a lead screen themselves.
Is this one the equivalent of being X Rayed 50 times in one go?
Never mind seeing my bum, what about my health, you bums?

It is well within the permitted limits and don’t forget you are fully dressed. One thing i’ve just thought of though - pregnant women - their babies will also be viewable and that might be a problem in a couple of ways.

  1. You go through it for like a second, they’re round it all day… They just have to keep it on because they’re exposed to the rays more.

If you had to get X-Rayed over and over, then it’d be quite bad. But as it’s in a Airport it won’t be life-threatening or hardly hurtful! :)

  3. They go behind screens because they’re potentially taking hundreds of x-rays several days a week for years. That adds up to a massive amount of radiation.

The health implications have been cleared, I wouldn’t waste your time worrying about them.

detecting & preventing terrorism out-weighs the risk to the individual.
For the greater good isn’t it better to risk a little, to save a lot?
    Or something like that.
