Why is dating such a ridiculous dance of manipulation for both the sexes?

It is like a social mine field. Yikes. How do we even make it past a few generations is beyond me.

Courtship rituals. Check out the birds and bees, you will find some very strange rituals.

It’s exactly the same with humans. You describe it perfectly as a dance of manipulation. Each sex is checking out the other’s ability to make a good mate. Strength, beauty, grace, social skills, health, money. It’s all part of a balancing act. If we get it wrong, we suffer.

  1. because the 2 genders tend to have 2 different agendas.Men a lot of times just want a nice quickie, but women think of romance.

you seethe way i see it , by making the dating process as stressful as possible , it weeds out the people who are a bit too on the suicidal side before they can have kids and then die leaving their children parentless. :( no i’m just kidding.
it’s all about testing the waters. dating is like an obstacle ourse and if once you findsome one you are able to navigate through all the drama and crap, chances are you’ll be able to make it through the harder times in your mairrage and still be together. it’s the peliminaries because really before you commit to someone you want to know how they react to stressful and crisis situations:) so take it easy the world is looking out for you not trying to get cha . I hope all goes well

  6. Well, "Dating" as you know it hasn’t been around that long. A few generations ago most people married in their late teens and stayed married for life. Country singer Loretta Lynn was married when she was 14. That’s extreme for the US, but shows the way our nation has changed in 50 years or so.

Through most of history, dating was non-existent. Marriages were usually arranged, and people rarely had any choice over who they married. It seems oppressive, but it worked well and kept the culture stable.

If you look at the state of families in the US, and much of Europe, you’ll see that "dating" as a prelude to marriage is a failed practice. Most marriages end with divorce, usually within 5 years. Most kids today have dads, moms, stepdads, stepmoms, or no dads at all.

People are controlled by their urges and desires, and don’t have the strength to commit to lifetime relationships. Only the state or a religious group can force a superego structure strong enough to keep most people married for life.

  7. Most dating is pointless. We all settle for an individual we’re most comfortable being with. Those who apply emotion and fall in love, fight bitterly in the end and make life hell for their children.

  9. Thats the way you women want it.

Modern dating is the result of your sexual revolution. Two selfish, shallow people trying to get what they want out of the other. Enjoy.

  10. That’s exactly why I got married without dating, played the dating game, thought it was the most ridiculous thing I ever heard in all my born days, my goal was to get married, period, yet you know the western world, got to play that dating game. Yep that’s right married my husband four months after meeting him; only once, no form of communication during that time, Arabs its rare amongst them, yet as far as I know to date I’m the only American whoever married an Arab in that manner, you hear of it and the women like me may be converts as well; only a lot of the times it goes bad; still married and going strong for the past 23 yrs.

also, it was avoided for the longest time by arranging marriages. this whole idea that relations with the opposite gender start with love and then move to commitment is a fairly new idea.

  12. What’s manipulative about it? You go out and have some food and drink. Then maybe you go to a movie. Then you go back to his place or hers. You talk and find out about each other. You decide whether or not to have sex. After a certain number of dates, you might start falling in love. And, if that happens, you might decide on whether or not to get married. Doesn’t seem very manipulative to me.

Both manipulate to have their own ways… they want something and they want to use the other to get it. Women are more romantic and they get hurt easily.
