Why are sexes separated, I mean why aren’t we all hermaphrodites?

I mean, yeah there is hermaphroditism among plants as a common and also slugs, but why are most animals with separeted 2 sexes?

I would assume that having two parent’s genes mixed with each other produces more variations in the human race which makes the ultimate survival of the species more likely.

  1. because the reproduction process would be very difficult

Humans are not plants, or slugs.

And wouldn’t life be really boring if this were true? I like things the way that they are. Women are beautiful and sexy. And there is nothing more natural than this. Don’t question it.

  7. mutation or seperation, most scientists believe we were once all hermaphrodites and a mutation occured creating another sex or the two sexes seperated slowly over time like any 2 species separates. My biology teacher says that the Y chromosomes is slowly shrinking due to both natural and pollution causes so eventually (like in a billion years) we will be hermaphrodites again. And most hermaphrodite species still ahve sex but they sort of choose who is the girl and who is the boy because they could be either, so they do have the same amount of variation as the human race

  8. because among animals being a hermaphrodite is a genetic mutation and deformity of incomplete and mixed hormones. we were made by nature and her selection to be a two to tango reproductive organism. thats just the way we evolved because it was best suited for us. plants are that way bcuz they arent alive like us to where they can go off and find a mate so they had to evolve to multiply through numero uno

hahaha the idea of you being all of us hermaphrodites makes me laugh yet wonder. but as far as i know, there are cases of Hermaphrodites among humans. i wonder how the exact process of this anatomical alteration took place.

  10. Zamblee stated the benefits first. Species with asexual reproduction have fewer ways to remove harmful genetic mutations. Any harmful genetic trait gets passed down generations with further effects than species with sexual reproductive methods. Two parents combining their gene pool have a much greater chance of removing harmful genetic through either mixing the pool or cancelling the effects of one trait through the expression of another trait.

Now how sexual reproduction started is a more unclear topic, but it’s possible that it began as an enhanced method of exchanging genes. Gene transfer still happens today, in fact. I believe they’ve seen it in crops.

  11. Haemphrodite is less benfite in genetic survival bcz it very slow, weak and immature process. We are high level organism so we can’t haemphrodite. And yes haemphrodite have sudden gender selection cause weak genetic codes

  12. A lot of adaptations evolve because of chance, and these adaptations stick around because they work, not because they are "better" than X or Z adaptation in another species. Similarly, genes die out sometimes due to chance, sometimes due to simply not being successful enough, but not because they are comparatively worse than any other gene or adaptation. If better or worse, it doesn’t matter, so long as it is just good enough to survive. If it works, even if it is not as effective or as clean or as … whatever… as another adaptation/gene in another species, if it works well enough, it will stay. Perhaps it just so happened that way for each of our species, worked well enough to continue, and so it has. So really, there is no why to this question. There is no reason for it whatsoever. It just happened that way, differently, for each of our species, and each way works well enough.

Here’s food for thought, though; if we had evolved hermaphroditic, everyone would be a mother. Imagine the impact of that on our evolution, even just from a social angle. It might have precluded division of labor, precluded hunter/gatherer, precluded putting mental energy towards much of anything else besides child rearing. Or perhaps we would have been like other species and laid thousands of eggs and left it at that, no rearing involved. Just from one angle, the level of learning and brain development we are able to achieve because we divide labor and care for our young so intensely, that would be rendered impossible by such an adaptation. Change one little thing, everything changes.

  13. human hermaphrodites are produced as a result of genetic defects, most often causing two sets of external genitallia, but absent or non functioning internal reproductive organs, causing sterility.
