Does anyone have a checklist of poses for family portraits?


A list of the basic wedding photograph poses and candid shots, to present to the photographer before the wedding day.

THE COUPLE

__ Bride and Groom

__ Bride alone with bouquet

__ Bride walking down the aisle to meet the groom (candid, during ceremony)

__ Groom alone

__ Bride and Groom kissing (candid, ceremony close)

__ Bride and Groom hand closeup (ring showing, candid during ceremony or posed later)

__ Bride and Groom cutting the cake (hands held together on the cake cutter)

__ Bride and Groom feeding each other cake (candid—get the shot before it turns into a newlywed food fight)

__ Bride and Groom dancing (candid during first dance, or posed)

__ Bride and Groom leaving (candid shots as they leave the reception, and also of them driving away)

WEDDING PARTY

__ Wedding Party, including Bride, Groom, Best Man, Groomsmen, Maid of Honor, Bridesmaids

__ Groom with best man

__ Groom with all groomsmen

__ Bride with maid or matron of honor

__ Bride with all bridesmaids

__ Bride and groom with best man and maid of honor

__ Ring bearer

__ Flower girl

Note: Ring bearer and flower girl can be included in general wedding party shots or not (with ring bearer amongst the groom’s attendants, and flower girl amongst the bride’s). In general, kids won’t make it long at the reception without wilting and needing to go, or getting messy, so try to get these shots early.

BRIDE’S FAMILY

__ Bride with parents

__ Bride with parents and full siblings

__ Bride with mother and stepfather

__ Bride with mother, stepfather, and all maternal siblings

__ Bride with father and stepmother

__ Bride with father, stepmother, and all paternal siblings

__ Bride with mother and maternal grandparents

__ Bride with father and paternal grandparents

__ Bride’s family shot, including parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins. Note: Don’t include dates or fiancés, and only include relatives by marriage if the bride has very few relatives.

__ Father giving away bride (candid shot at ceremony or posed shot before ceremony)

__ Bride dancing with father (candid shot during reception)

__ Bride dancing with father-in-law (candid shot during reception)

GROOM’S FAMILY

__ Groom with parents

__ Groom with parents and siblings

__ Groom with mother and maternal grandparents

__ Groom with father and paternal grandparents

__ Groom’s family shot, including parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins. See note under bride’s family shot.

__ Groom dancing with mother (candid shot during reception)
